"Green and Gold Today," Van Pelt join 540 ESPN lineup

540 ESPN will greet the new year with a new programming lineup.

Beginning Jan. 3, "Green and Gold Today," the web-based Packers show co-hosted by Jason Wilde and Bill Johnson will be carried "over the air" on 540 ESPN in a new time slot. The show, which relies heavily on social media interaction and has developed a devoted following online, will kick off the local programming slate on the station each weekday beginning at 9 a.m.

"Our recent fan survey provided another reminder of the passion that Packers fans have for their favorite team," said Good Karma Broadcasting President / CEO Craig Karmazin said in announcing the changes.

"We started "Green and Gold Today" as an "experimental" show. We didn't know if you could do a Packers-based show every day. But, the experiment was a success. Jason and Bill have done such a great job with it that our fans and advertising partners demanded that we make it part of our over-the-air lineup."

"The D-List," featuring Drew Olson and Channel 12 Sports Director Dan Needles, will move up one hour to follow "Green and Gold Today" beginning at 10 a.m. and running until 1 p.m.

"The Scott Van Pelt Show," featuring popular ESPN personalities Scott Van Pelt and Ryen Russillo, will follow "The D-List," with two hours of national programming leading into "Homer and Thunder," which will air from 3 to 6 p.m. in Milwaukee and on 100.5 FM in Madison.

540 ESPN will continue to broadcast "Mike and Mike in the Morning," from 5 to 9 a.m. As a result of the changes, however, the station no longer will air "The Herd with Colin Cowherd."

"When we did the fan survey, we told people that we valued their input," Karmazin said. "One of the things they told us was that they wanted an alternative to "The Herd," which is a signature show on ESPN Radio. The reaction was more extreme than expected. Scott Van Pelt is very popular in Wisconsin and we're glad to offer his show to our fans.

"All of these changes are a reaction to input from our fans and maketing partners. As we continue to grow as a station, there may be more changes to come."
