GREEN BAY -- As expected, the Packers promoted wide receiver Jake Allen from the practice squad on Tuesday to take the place of injured Brett Swain, who was placed on season-ending injured reserve with the left knee injury he suffered against Cleveland on Sunday.
In addition, with only three other healthy wideouts -- Donald Driver, Greg Jennings and James Jones -- the team also signed wide receivers Biren Ealy and Patrick Williams to the practice squad. One took Allen's spot on the eight-player squad; guard Stanley Daniels was released to make room for the other.
Allen spent the season’s first seven weeks on the Packers’ practice squad after spending the entire 2008 season there. A 6-foot-4, 196-pound player, he will wear No. 13.
Ealy, a 6-foot-2, 212-pound second-year player, played in four games with the Tennessee Titans in 2007. He spent the 2008 season on the Titans’ practice squad and spent time this offseason with
Williams, a 6-foot-1, 204-pound, originally signed with the Packers this offseason as a non-drafted rookie free agent. He will wear No. 18.
