Chillar broke his hand during Sunday’s loss and underwent surgery Monday to repair the break. Team physician Pat McKenzie told McCarthy that Chillar would probably miss “a couple of weeks,” then be able to return wearing a club cast on his hand. McCarthy said either A.J. Hawk or Desmond Bishop will replace Chillar, and defensive coordinator Dom Capers said the “Big Okie” package is likely shelved until Chillar returns.
The other injuries McCarthy announced from the game were to safety Nick Collins (bruised ankle), wide Donald Driver (stinger), fullback John Kuhn (knee bruise), safety Derrick Martin (concussion).
McCarthy said tight end Jermichael Finley (knee) will be “questionable to doubtful,” for the Buccaneers, while wide receiver Jordy Nelson (knee) is “probably another week away” from returning.
Meanwhile, returner Will Blackmon said in a text message that he underwent knee surgery on his torn ACL on Thursday.
