Tauscher out at least 2 weeks, Kampman iffy

Nov 09, 2009 -- 8:24pm

GREEN BAY – Right tackle Mark Tauscher will be out for awhile – but not the rest of the season – while left outside linebacker Aaron Kampman played much of Sunday’s game with a concussion and may not be ready for next Sunday’s game against Dallas.

Packers coach Mike McCarthys aid Tauscher sprained his left knee – the same knee he’s torn the ACL in twice, including last season – but said team physician Pat McKenzie “doesn't think it's a serious, long-term injury. He'll have a slight chance to play this week. At most it would be a couple-week injury.”

McCarthy intimated that rookie T.J. Lang – and not previous starter Allen Barbre, whom Tauscher replaced in the starting lineup Sunday against Tampa Bay – would start at right tackle against Dallas.

“I think T.J. has warranted that,” McCarthy said. “I'm a little concerned about the musical chairs that once again we have played on our offensive line. I think that's not a positive. I think it's been a deterrent of trying to gain continuity of getting five guys in there starting together. (Playing Lang at right tackle is) definitely something that we talked about this morning and it's definitely something that we'll look at.”

Kampman’s status, meanwhile, is “still up in the air,” McCarthy said.

Kampman said he suffered a blow to the left side of his head on the fourth play of the game, although he continued to play until the fourth quarter, when he finally was replaced by Brady Poppinga. Kampman said he’d taken one post-concussion test Monday before going to pick up his son at school.

"We're just kind of taking it as it comes," Kampman said.

Defensive coordinator Dom Capers said he thought it was a “possibility” that Kampman didn’t have all his faculties on the Buccaneers’ first touchdown, a pass to the right flat to Derrick Ward.

“I didn't realize that he got dinged so early in the game,” Capers said. “Looking back at some of those plays, I can see now where he wasn't himself. I didn't notice it until (outside linebackers coach) Kevin (Greene) came on in the second half and said that he'd had some issues. But I think it influenced his play, I do think it affected him the first half."

I'm just glad Jarrett Bush is healthy. Packers would be in big big trouble if they had to face Dallas without Jarrett Bush.

Thank the good lord that Jarrett didn't get injured against Tampa. We have a chance against Dallas now.

I don't know how Capers would be able to tell anyway. He's always up in the booth. It's his coaches on the sideline who should have noticed something. Hope he will be OK. Concussions are not to be messed with.

I wonder what Kampman has been saying about Capers? I suppose they didn't really notice anything srrange about Kampmans play, because he always looks lost in coverage.
